Fall 2019 Classes in Action!
Students proved that we get 80% of our flavor from our sense of smell. We tried a variety of tastes and found that very little flavor was detected when we blocked our nose. Students recorded their findings and enjoyed tasting new 'sauces'!
Can you 'taste' it?
Students worked in pairs to research how much sugar is in our drink choices. Then they measured out by teaspoons the amount of sugar and placed it in ziplock bags. The activity is shocking to some students, one surprising fact is that there are 29 teaspoons of sugar in a medium Reece's Cup Blizzard. To find the teaspoons in a drink, divide the sugar grams by 4.
Students completed the Nutri-Body Project the week of September 11-15. Working in groups of 3, students researched the function and food sources of several nutrients. They compile all information on character bodies. It is a fun week of learning in SHS FACS classes!
Hold The Mold Experiment How many bacteria are on our hands, phones, surfaces at school? Nutrition and Wellness students collected germ samples of various sources. Watch for updates as the mold grows! After 8 days in the classroom, we finalized our experiment. See below. Oh, and go wash your hands.
Tool Lab Day! Can you name all 50 tools by sight? These students tried their best as we introduced the correct kitchen tools to use.
Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Chips! Food and Kitchen safety, knife skills and an intro to lab layouts were all practiced during this healthy production. Students enjoyed working together to create a healthy snack!
